Answers

  1. Am I eligible for transfer credit/exemption/waiver for STAT 157?
    • If you have a course from the list below, you may use it to get an exemption for STAT 157. At Camosun, because the two courses aren't equivalent (STAT 157 is a 7-week course, while the courses below are 14-week courses) we give exemptions rather than granting transfer credit.
      Courses
STAT 116: Elementary Statistics (used to be MATH 116)
STAT 216: Applied Statistics (used to be MATH 216)
STAT 218: Probability and Statistics 1 (used to be MATH 216)
      BUS 230: Elementary Statistics
    • Please note that a D grade in any of these courses is not acceptable.
  2. Okay, I'm eligible. What do I do now?
    • Email Academic Advising with a subject line of "Tech Math Substitution" and in the body of the email use a statement like "I believe I can use STAT 116 to get an exemption for STAT 157" and they will start the exemption process with you. It's best to email from the email address that is on your student record to prove your identity, since you will not be there in person to show your ID.
  3. I have courses from other institutions that are similar to those listed in answer #2. What do I do now?
    • Apply for transfer credit evaluation through the Student Records Request for Transfer Credit process. After you have been officially awarded Camosun transfer credit and it has been put on your student record, then you can proceed to the steps in answer #2 above.
  4. If my exemption request is approved, how will STAT 157 show up on my transcript?
    • If your exemption request is successful, a note will be made on your student record. Please be aware that this note will not show as STAT 157 on a transcript, as it is a note in the system allowing other courses to be used in place of STAT 157. You will not be granted credit for 157 as well.
